29th June 2020
It was windy, very windy, but it stayed dry for the first day of the bowls club being open again after shutdown.
18th June 2020
Filkins Bowls Club is re-opening!
As of Monday 29th June the green will be open to members for roll ups.
But you have to book a rink in advance, and follow the new Covid rules and guidelines!

This is also a gentle reminder about paying your membership fees. It would be nice to waiver it this year but the club still have the usual boring overheads such as electricity and insurance to pay. But as the season has been cut somewhat short the membership fee this year has been reduced to £10! However, we are asking for players who do decide to come for roll ups and practice to pay £1 / person / session and there will be an honesty box in the shed for this.
If your bowls currently are in the clubhouse from last season contact Robert to gain access to collect them. Do not leave anything at the club between sessions, all personal possessions must be taken home.
If you have any questions please contact Robert 01367 860977, Terry 07810 845199 or Annika 07775 093484.

The most recent Government guidance released on 1st June states:
“You can play lawn bowls where facilities have reopened, but you can only take part in these activities by yourself, or with members of your household or with no more than five other people outside of your household, as long as you are able to maintain social distancing.”
Once we are confident we can follow the new guidance and have worked out new systems for playing safely, and circulated them to our members, we will open up again.
Unfortunately we won’t be playing any fixtures this year but we are hoping we can play some of our club games.
19th May 2020
…another month almost gone without bowls. However, there is light at the end of the tunnel!
Government guidance released on May 13, 2020 states: “You can play lawn bowls where facilities have reopened, but you can only take part in these activities by yourself, or with members of your household or with one person outside of your household, as long as you are able to maintain social distancing.”
Once we have familiarised ourselves with all the guidelines and are confident we can follow them, we are hoping to work out a system whereby we can open again. Hopefully by the end of June / early July you should see some of us on the green for a few roll-ups or potentially one or two club competitions (as these are usually only played one on one).
The green looks good, thanks to our members who have been looking after it, Brian, Colin and Robert with the support from Mick – and a special thank you to Jack Lafford for his help!!
21st April 2020
Well, at time of writing, May is knocking on the door. April came and brought some lovely weather which would have made for a great start to the season but, as per our update on the notice board:
Our Monday night practice sessions are for obvious reasons (also known as Covid-19) on hold and the annual Cotswold Woollen Weaver competition in June is cancelled. Some clubs have decided not to go ahead with their fixtures this year but we keep reviewing the situation and try to remain hopeful that we will be allowed out on the green later in the summer for some of the games. For this reason the green will be cut and maintained by members and future updates will be found on our notice board by the club, on the website (www.filkins.org.uk) and here in the St Filica Newsletter.
Hoping to see you later in the summer. Keep safe.
Pictured below are Colin and Robert having just finished the third cut of the season.
Brian with the help of Robert did the first cut a couple of weeks ago and although the green perhaps isn’t match ready you have to agree it is looking rather good!
